Yes. This post will actually tie together a photo of Rod Stewart and a picture of a pound cake that I made.
When an aunt died a few years ago, I was amazed to discover that her children had thrown out many of the photo albums she’d put together over the years. My cousins kept their baby books but all the other photo albums had been unceremoniously tossed into the dumpster. I fished them out and kept them.
My aunt took dozens and dozens of pictures at every family gathering. As I leafed through the 15 photo albums that I recovered, I was amazed to discover two things.
A startling number of middle-aged women paid a lot of money in the 80s to have their hair cut and styled to match Rod Stewart. Perhaps this ‘do was a Southern thing? I’m not sure.
My aunt made the best pound cake imaginable but would never share her recipe. Tucked inside one of the photo albums was the recipe. I made one of her pound cakes this week. Yummy-tastic. And, just so you know, a really good pound cake counts as a legitimate breakfast food, as well as a dessert item.
Guess my cousins shouldn’t have been so quick to throw out those photo albums.
